World Premieres No Longer Limited To Hollywood. Internet, Film Festivals Are New Distribution Streams For Artists. Dr. Shroud Premieres On Internet At www.Newgrounds.com and Live in Memphis

October 30, 2009

The traditional studio/theater distribution model is being chiseled away by new producers and artists who leverage affordable technology, free social network marketing tools, and independent film festivals to premiere their work, build buzz and fans.

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- World premiere movies are not just taking place in Hollywood anymore. Thanks to the internet, Dr. Shroud:Vampire Killer, by creator Robert Feldman, will premiere its newest animated short over the Halloween weekend. Since October 31st falls on a Saturday, some film festival organizers are hosting special spooky-themed screenings. The same thing is happening on the internet. First, Feldman timed the creation of the latest Dr. Shroud episode for completion by Halloween. Animator Robert Feldman explains, "Dr. Shroud fans are loyal and I wanted to give them something special since Shroud has been underground for a few years. Halloween seemed like the right time for a vampire killer to come out."

Making use of the internet and free social media tools in conjunction with local film festivals is side-stepping the traditional studio/theater release model. With the new animated episode tweaked and completed, organizers of the internationally recognized On Location:Memphis (formerly Memphis International Film Festival) have scheduled the 5-minute short to run prior to their feature presentation of Nosferatu remastered as Orlock in 3-D.Exposure at these festivals can generate word-of-mouth by early viewers and handraisers who share their opinions on Facebook and Twitter. The other premiere platform is the internet. Newgrounds.com is the web's top flash animation site. Its owner, Tom Fulp, is a fan and is hosting Dr. Shroud's on-line world premiere. His site claims up to 2 million unique page views per day and has supported Shroud in the past. Fans rely on Newgrounds.com for the latest, edgiest product and will increase traffic when they hear about being the first-to-see.

All elements and platforms have been timed and coordinated as a major motion picture or network series launch with a newly designed http://www.drshroud.com website set to launch Friday, October 30 Mischief Night. The internet properties also include a Dr.Shroud Twitter profile and merchandise at online store CafePress (cafepress.com/halloweenjam/drshroud). A Facebook fan page is in the works as well as a ning community and creator blog for updates on Shroud and other characters. Dr. Shroud is the brainchild of Robert Feldman, a website designer by day and vampire creator by night. This self-taught Flash animator' s storytelling and art have been recognized at ComiCon International, San Diego and by USA Today. Feldman describes, "Dr. Shroud was born of a human mother and vampire father. He was raised by a vampire hunter who taught him to renounce his evil life. Now he is a plastic surgeon/reformed vampire. He wants to interact with humans but then his daughter, Wendy, was kidnapped and taken to the vampire infested city of Necropolis. He is forced to go back to his vampire world in order to find and save his daughter. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger. Fans tell me what they want to see next. Teens like the vampires. Adults like it because they can relate to the B-Film and film-noir style. It a lot of fun."

The Dr. Shroud world premiere can be seen on http://www.Newgrounds.com starting on Halloween October 31. The On Location:Memphis live screening will take place at 8:30PM at the Levitt Shell in Overton Park Memphis, Tennessee. Attendance is expected from all over the world http://www.OnLocationMemphis.org.
