BACK ROADS
★★★ 8pm, ABC
On South Australia's glittering Limestone Coast, intrepid sightseer Heather Ewart drops in on the sleepy hamlet of Robe. Seafaring culture is strong, as is a quaint sense of patriotic duty, manifested here in a program designed to give war veterans and their families a bit of R&R at farmers' holiday houses. Ewart manages to bring more sunshine to this idyll, sampling local produce and joining the locals for a comedy night at the pub.
ALL HAIL KING JULIEN
Series premiere
★★★★ 7.25am, ABC ME
There are enough hints of hedonistic revelry in this witty spin-off of the animated movie Madagascar to appeal to the burgeoning maturity of schoolchildren without actually corrupting them. Naughty, arrogant King Julien of the lemurs (Danny Jacobs) loves only one thing as much as himself and that's to par-tay. In between fending off the dreaded fusa and stroking his own indestructible ego, he's leading his furry followers in yet another bush doof until dawn.
MOVIE: GOING THE DISTANCE
★★★ 8.30pm, 7flix
Hollywood rom-com darling Drew Barrymore stars in this convoluted modern love story about a long-distance relationship conducted between New York and San Francisco. With her co-star Justin Long (the voice of Alvin in 2007's Alvin and the Chipmunks), Barrymore shares a convincing chemistry, which is fortunate as the pair have some mighty awkward sex scenes involving furniture. Christina Applegate, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis also appear.
