Film director Niki Caro wraps up a quick sale in the Hollywood Hills
Call it a short shoot for Niki Caro.
The New Zealand-born director, who has helmed such films as “Whale Rider” and “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” has sold her home in Hollywood Hills West after about a month on the market. The two-bedroom cottage, built in 1938, went for $1.405 million, or more than $200,000 more than the asking price.
Two sets of stairs extend up the hill to reach the leafy canyon retreat, which sits on a corner-acre of grounds. Inside, the 1,241 square feet of living space features vaulted ceilings that hang over bright living spaces. Picture windows and French doors bring in natural light.
A great room with a fireplace connects to the modern kitchen, which is outfitted with custom cabinetry and marble and butcher block countertops. An outdoor dining terrace sits off the kitchen area.
Both of the home’s bedrooms open to an expansive outdoor space, complete with a garden, lounge and fireplace.
The home, which was recently renovated, last changed hands in 2014, records show.
Geoff Clark and Jordan Berry of Deasy/Penner & Partners were the listing agents. Jennifer Tucker, also of Deasy/Penner, represented the buyer.
After 2002’s “Whale Rider” drew praise from critics, Caro went on to direct films such as “North Country” and “McFarland, USA” the latter starring Kevin Costner. Last February, it was announced that Caro would direct Disney’s live-action “Mulan,” making her the second woman at the studio to direct a film with a budget of over $100 million.
