Netflix political thriller House of Cards is coming to an end with one final season – the first without Kevin Spacey.

His character Frank Underwood, the President of the United States, has been killed off after Spacey was axed from the show amid sexual misconduct allegations.

The new series, which consists of eight episodes, sees a new Presidential era with Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright, assuming the role of Leader of The Free World.

Here is everything you need to know about the final series:.

What happens in the final season?

With Frank gone, a sort-of-grieving Claire is sworn in and soon causes major controversy with her leadership.

While plot details have been kept under wraps, teaser trailers show people plotting against Claire and wanting her out of the White House – by any means necessary.

Meanwhile, Claire is clear that she has ended the “reign of the middle-aged white man. She announced, in the trailer, that people should “forget whatever Francis told them in the last five years”.

Why are there only eight episodes?

The staple number of episodes for previous series has been 13, and the sixth season was set to be the same. However, when the show went back into production after axing Spacey , the streaming giant reduced the number of episodes to eight. Two featuring Spacey were scrapped entirely.

Are there any new faces in the cast?

Greg Kinnear, 54, best known for his roles in Little Miss Sunshine and Green Zone, has joined the cast alongside Diane Lane starred in Adrian Lyn's film Unfaithful.
