The Mummy 4 would’ve seen Brendan Fraser vs Antonio Banderas’ Aztec mummy

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A few weeks back we passed along word THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS star Brendan Fraser would love to return for a fourth entry. And today we're hearing that there were plans for just that a few years back. Evidently it was after the third entry THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR was the lowest grossing of the franchise that Universal opted not to go forward with a fourth film.

Which is too bad because THE MUMMY 4 sounded awesome and would have centered on

the O'Connells facing off against Aztec mummies in South America with Antonio Banderas playing the villain.

I have to say that even though THE MUMMY RETURNS and THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR was lacking at best, I'd still like to see a fun follow-up to the original semi-classic. Add in Aztec mummies and, what the hell Antonio Banderas, and I'd be down to take that trip.

How about you? Let us know below!

The original film followed this synopsis:

The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.

Stephen Sommers wrote and directed THE MUMMY while James Jacks produced the remake along with Sean Daniel. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's co-stars included John Hannah, Jonathan Hyde, Kevin J. O'Connor, and Arnold Vosloo as the titular mummy. Universal Pictures unleashed the first flick into theaters back on May 7, 1999. Buy it on Blu-ray right HERE.
