Kolkata calling for Hollywood celebrity Andie MacDowell?
In its 25th year, Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is set to throw up a lot of surprises for movie lovers. One among them is likely to be a brush with Hollywood. If sources are to be believed, this year’s KIFF will be attended by Sex, Lies, and Videotape actress Andie MacDowell. The KIFF authorities have already extended an invite to the American actress. Said a festival official on condition of anonymity, “We have spoken to the Hollywood star and she has confirmed her presence at the festival.
Right now, the logistics — her date of arrival, place of stay — are being worked out. If we get a restored copy of Steven Soderbergh’s Sex, Lies, and Videotape, it will be shown and the actress will be present at the screening.” The film won the Palme d’Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and also went a long way in revolutionising the indie film movement in the early 1990s.
Before foraying into acting, Andie was a model. She made her screen debut in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) and went on to receive critical acclaim for her role in Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989). She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Andie played the role of Ann Bishop Mullany, a woman who gets cheated on by her husband. She also received Golden Globe Award nominations for her performances in Green Card (1990) and Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994).
In 2015, Bollywood fashionista Sonam Kapoor bonded with Andie MacDowell at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival. The actress gave a special gift to MacDowell, who hugged and thanked her for the sweet gesture.
