Well, it looks like Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes' hit The Purge franchise is still going as strong as ever. In fact, today we hear that Luke Cage director Everardo Gout's upcoming currently untitled fifth entry in the theatrical film series has just snagged two more actors for the annual anything-goes event. Yes, today we've learned that The Purge 5 has brought in Will Patton (Armageddon) and Cassidy Freeman (The Righteous Gemstones) for undisclosed roles.

Will Patton and Cassidy Freeman will be joining the previously announced cast of Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre) and Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) in the new Blumhouse/Platinum Dunes horror thriller. It's said The Purge 5 will be ditching its usual city-setting for a more rural tale still dealing with class and race issues.

While that's really all we have to go on at this point in time, my movie senses have me speculating that this means the plot will probably center around Reguera and Huerta trying to escape a big city during the annual Purge only to be caught in a more horrific situation out in the boondocks. And ten bucks says that Will Patton and Cassidy Freeman will be playing a redneck couple that will make for all kinds of hell for the city slickers. But I could be totally wrong. I guess we'll see when Universal Pictures unleashes the film onto the masses starting July 10, 2020.

Anyhow, I dig this cast, especially Will Patton. After all, the man is no stranger to my beloved horror genre as he has had roles in films such as Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green's recent direct sequel to John Carpenter's Halloween and DC Universe and James Wan's canceled Swamp Thing series. But that's not all, folks. Patton has also starred in Stuart Orme's The Puppet Masters with Donald Sutherland and Keith David, Jon Amiel's Copycat with Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter, Mark Pellington's The Mothman Prophecies with Richard Gere and Laura Linney, and Olatunde Osunsanmi's The Fourth Kind with Milla Jovovich and Elias Koteas. That's one hell of a horror resume!

Meanwhile, Cassidy Freeman's history with the horror genre includes Mark Pavia's Fender Bender with Makenzie Vega, Jesse Holland & Andy Mitton's YellowBrickRoad with Michael Laurino and Anessa Ramsey, and The Vampire Diaries with Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. But casual viewers probably know Freeman best for her roles as Cady Longmire on Longmire and as 'Tess Mercer aka Lutessa Lena Luthor on Smallville.

Franchise creator James DeMonaco, who wrote and directed The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy, and The Purge: Election Year will be back to pen this new installment. And on top of writing the screenplay for this new The Purge film, DeMonaco will also serve as one of the film's producers along with Sebastien K. Lemercier, Blumhouse's Jason Blum, and Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form. Once again, Universal Pictures is all set to unleash the fifth installment in The Purge series onto the masses on July 10, 2020. In the meantime, this casting update for The Purge 5 was brought to our attention by The Hollywood Reporter.
