Hugh Grant cracks hilarious Bridget Jones joke after Renee Zellweger wins Best Actress

Hugh Grant cracked a Bridget Jones joke after Renée Zellweger won Best Actress at the Baftas.

The actor, who played Zellweger’s love interest Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and its 2004 sequel, appeared on stage to introduce the next award directly after the Judy star accepted her award.

“First of all – well done, Jones,” Grant said, adding: “That indeed was a silly little dress.”

His joke was a reference to his quote in the film, when he tells Zellweger’s character: “Now, these are very silly little boots, Jones. And this is a very silly little dress.”

The ceremony was hosted by Graham Norton, whose opening speech referenced the lack of diversity within the nominations.

Earlier in the evening, Brad Pitt – who won Best Supporting Actress or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – delivered an acceptance speech, via Margot Robbie, that poked fun at Brexit and Prince Harry.
