Coronavirus crisis: Producers' association requests filmmakers to clear dues of their employees
In a statement, Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) asked filmmakers to clear all pending dues of daily wage workers, technicians and artistes who have lost their jobs because of the lockdown.
Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) on Friday released a statement requesting filmmakers to clear all pending dues of their employees, including daily wage workers, technicians and artistes. Ever since the lockdown was announced on March 25 to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus, film production has stopped. The lockdown has left many people working in the film industry unemployed, many of whom are facing financial crunch.
In the statement, IMPPA mentioned that the situation of daily wage workers, technicians and artistes is bad as they have not been paid their pending dues.
The statement read, "As all members are aware that the situation of daily wage workers, technicians and artistes, who have not yet been paid the dues for their working for our members has become very serious due to further extension of the lockdown by the Government.
"We are aware that our members are also having liquidity crunch and are facing difficulties, but on humanitarian ground, we request all our members who have taken work from any of their employees, daily wage workers, artistes and technicians for any of their productions to clear their dues as much as possible as they are more vulnerable in these trying times and to ensure that they get enough money to fulfil their daily needs.
"All members are requested to do the needful and pay the dues of their employees, daily wage workers, artistes and technicians as soon as possible to enable them to survive with dignity in these difficult times."
While thousands of daily wage workers and other artistes are waiting for their pending dues, several Bollywood celebrities have come forward to help them. Salman Khan provided financial support to 25,000 daily wage workers. Sonakshi Sinha is also auctioning her art work to provide ration to people from the industry who lost their jobs because of the lockdown.
