Blue Lagoon actress Brooke Shields has jetted into Scotland to star in the festive romantic comedy A Castle For Christmas alongside British actor Cary Elwes.

Production for the big-budget movie begins tomorrow, with plans to shoot some scenes around the four-star Drimsynie Estate Holiday Village, on the banks of Loch Goil, Argyllshire.

The Sunday Mail can reveal that filming will also take place in a Scottish castle near Stirlingshire, with a location that has not been disclosed to all cast and crew members yet.

The former Calvin Klein model, 55, plays famed American author Sophie, who travels to Scotland and finds herself wanting to buy a castle.

However, the prickly owner, a duke named Myles, played by The Princess Bride star Elwes, is reluctant to sell to a foreigner.

A plot summary for the film says: “Working to find a compromise, the pair constantly butt heads but, along the way, they just may find more than they bargained for.”

Filming is expected to last six weeks and the mum of two will stay in Scotland until the movie wraps in November.

A source said: “Netflix love Scotland – the breathtaking scenery, the picturesque backdrop, the hospitality and everything else the country has to offer.

“Production starts on Monday with big stars like Brooke Shields staying for six weeks of filming.

“This is Brooke’s second time here and she really loves visiting Scotland.

“The film is expected to be a big hit and Brooke is looking forward to hitting the ground running. Filming will be taking over the holiday village for the duration.

“Filming will also take place in a castle but it is top secret which one.”

Additional restrictions have now been put in place across Scotland in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus and it is understood cast and crew will undergo regular tests.

Brooke took to Instagram to show she wasn't taking any chances as she boarded a plane and travelled to the UK to film

Last week, Shields took no chances as she boarded a plane to the UK and took to social media to share a photo of herself in a face shield, N95 face mask and plastic goggles.

She told her 1.1million Instagram followers: “On my way across the pond to shoot a @netflix movie!”

Our source added: “Brooke was a bit apprehensive about getting back to work due to the risk of the virus. However, Netflix have many precautions in place to protect the cast and crew.

“The cast, including Brooke, will be given Covid tests five times a week to make sure everything goes smoothly.”

The film is being directed by Mary Lambert, the veteran US filmmaker behind Pet Sematary and The In Crowd, with a release date planned for later this year.

Shields shot to fame aged 11 after playing a child prostitute in 1978 film Pretty Baby.

She was just 14 when she filmed steamy 1980 movie The Blue Lagoon with co-star Chris Atkins, about two teens who find romance after being shipwrecked on a Pacific island.

In the 1990s she starred in the TV comedy Suddenly Susan and has since appeared in series such as Lipstick Jungle, as well as various films and musical theatre.

She was married to tennis player Andre Agassi for two years before they split in 1999 and she has been wed to second husband, screenwriter Chris Henchy, since 2001.

The shoot is not the first time Scotland has had a starring role on film.

Earlier this year Scotland’s largest city was turned into Gotham city for the filming of The Batman, starring Twilight actor
Robert Pattinson, 33, as the Caped Crusader.

Last year, scenes for action thriller Fast & Furious 9, starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba, were filmed in
Glasgow.

Andrew Wright, Group Head of Marketing at Argyll Holidays, said: “It’s great to see a global production team like Netflix recognising the picturesque scenery we have in Scotland.

“This isn’t the first time Loch Goil has been on the big screen – the loch was made famous by the 1963 James Bond movie From Russia With Love, when 007 Sean Connery was pursued by a speedboat.

"And our Hollywood history continued when Scarlett Johansson stayed in one of our lodges during the filming of her 2013 film, Under The Skin."

A spokesman for VisitScotland said: “Scotland’s mix of stunning landscapes, rich heritage and fascinating stories offer the perfect setting for films and are behind so many major productions coming to our shores.”
