A Scottish Terrier called Braveheart, a 6ft polar bear and even a sleeping groom-to-be were some of the more interesting ‘items’ left behind by customers during 2020.

The housekeeping team at Dundee Central Travelodge were shocked to discover a groom in full wedding attire fast asleep in room 11.

The man had gone for a nap but overslept while his wedding party assumed he had left the hotel early to go marry his bride.

She feared he had got cold feet and decided not to marry her after arriving at the venue to discover he was missing in action.

Staff quickly woke the groom up and sent him on his way which thankfully allowed the wedding to go ahead.

Meanwhile, an elderly couple staying at Perth Broxden Junction Travelodge who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary forgot some bespoke wall art.

They soon realised and turned around en-route to Edinburgh to collect the tapestry which detailed their wedding vows before spending an extra night at the hotel.

A groom staying at Edinburgh Central Travelodge had to send a courier to pick up his wife’s surprise wedding present that he had forgotten to pack – a 6ft tall cuddly polar bear.

Whilst the team at Aberdeen Bucksburn Travelodge worked around the clock to deliver a 3ft long wedding bouquet made of Scottish wildflowers, heathers and thistles to a wedding ceremony which had been left behind by a wedding coordinator in the cold store room overnight.

More expensive items left behind include a brand new Aston Martin car at Ayr Travelodge and a rare bottle of single malt whisky worth £2000 at a hotel in Stirling City Centre.

A businessman forgot his lucky red wallet contained £5000 worth of yen at the Glasgow Airport Travelodge.

The hotel manager literally had to jump queues at the airport to reunite the customer with his prized possession.

Forgetful frontline workers also made the list after a doctor’s bag full of diagnostic equipment was left behind at Aberdeen Central Travelodge.

The team at Glasgow Govan found a set of nurse’s scrubs and a pair of crocs while a large box of bespoke face masks featuring the Scotland flag were left at Aberdeen Central.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman said: “With millions of customers annually staying at our 47 hotels across the length and breadth of Scotland for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

“This year’s audit in Scotland includes: 6ft Polar Bear, a bridegroom, a Scottish Terrier called Braveheart, a doctor's bag, a life-size cardboard of Sean Connery, title deeds to land in the Scottish Highlands and a bespoke tartan wedding saree.

“This year, as we kept some of our hotels open in Scotland during both lockdowns to support local communities and provide accommodation for key workers, local authorities and for businesses that could travel for work we have seen a rise in items being left behind by medical professionals.

“This includes a doctor’s bag filled with diagnostic equipment, scrubs and crocs plus lots of personalised face masks.

“When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. “In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten.”
