The stars of the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, have teased that Bernie Sanders will replace Kim Cattrall in the ensemble cast.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon uploaded a meme which combined a still of the two of them and Kristen Davis from the first Sex and the City film with a photograph of Sanders from the inauguration of President Biden.

The photograph of Sanders sat, arms and legs crossed, wearing an anorak, a surgical mask and a pair of fair isle mittens has been widely circulated on social media and juxtaposed with the slick, high fashion looks that many other inauguration attendees sported.

“Like a needle in a haystack,” Parker captioned the meme which she posted to her Instagram.

The social media posts come after fans of the cult HBO series expressed their disappointment at the fact that Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones in the popular series, would not be returning to the reboot.

The reasons for Cattrall not returning are not entirely clear, however, she has previously stated that she has no interest in resuming her role on the show as Samantha Jones.

While Sanders has not responded directly to the actor’s joke that he will join them in the highly anticipated reboot, he has responded to the viral meme of himself.

“I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on,” Sanders said during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Thursday of the moment he was photographed.

He went on to praise Jen Ellis, a teacher in Vermont, who made the mittens.

“What was really nice, Seth, is the woman who made the mittens... she is a schoolteacher [and] is a very very nice person. And she's been somewhat overwhelmed by the kind of attention that is being shown to her mittens,” Sanders said.

Ellis has since revealed that, despite a surge of interest, she does not have any more mittens for sale.

“Thanks for all the interest in Bernie's mittens!” she tweeted following the inauguration.

“It truly has been an amazing and historic day!  I'm so flattered that Bernie wore them to the inauguration.  Sadly, I have no more mittens for sale.  There are a lot of great crafters on ETSY who make them.”
