7 shocking revelations Priyanka Chopra made in her memoir Unfinished

Priyanka Chopra's journey in the world of cinema has truly been an inspiring one. Coming from a non-filmy background, she managed to exceed expectations and established herself as a top Bollywood star in her almost two-decade-long journey.

On Tuesday, February 9, Priyanka Chopra released her memoir, Unfinished. Within two days of its official launch, the book climbed the charts and has been classified as a bestseller in both India and the United States.

PRIYANKA ON HER PLASTIC CHOPRA-TAG AND BOTCHED NOSE SURGERY

While most celebrities in either Hollywood or Bollywood won't dare to talk about their surgeries, Priyanka Chopra opens up about the treatment she had to get for a polyp in her nasal cavity. She writes, "While shaving off the polyp, the doctor accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn't me anymore."

Priyanka mentions how the surgery led her to be called Plastic Chopra by both the public and media alike throughout her professional journey.

PRIYANKA ON BEING ASKED TO GET A BOOB JOB

Priyanka Chopra reveals that even winning the Miss World title wasn't enough for her. Soon after she took the crown home, she met with a director who asked her to make certain changes to her body. She confesses, "After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did. He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and a little more cushioning to my butt."

PRIYANKA ON BEING AN OUTSIDER IN THE INDUSTRY

The Bajirao Mastani star confesses that since she was from a non-filmy background, it was all the more difficult for her to start her career in the industry, as is the case with most of the outsiders. She agrees that the industry gave preference to those who belonged to a filmy background. She writes, "Over and over again I had to prove to the studios, which were mostly family-owned, that I deserved a seat at their table - which was not easy when I overheard comments at parties like, "I got her cast in this movie and I can take it away from her as well."

PRIYANKA ON BEING ASKED TO STRIP TO HER SKIN FOR A SONG

Priyanka mentions that during her early years in the industry, she had signed a big film. However, she had to quit the project the very next day after the director asked her to strip to her skin for a song. She pens, "The director suggested me to speak to my stylist, so I called him and briefly explained the situation, then passed on the phone to the director. Standing right in front of me, the director said: "Jo bhi ho chaddiyyan dikhni chahiyen. Nahi toh log picture kyun dekhne aayenge? (whatever happens, panties should be seen. Otherwise, why would people come to watch the movie?)"

Chopra adds that her co-star, Salman Khan, understood her situation, intervened, and helped defuse the situation.

WHEN PRIYANKA HID HER BOYFRIEND IN A CLOSET

Like most college-going teenagers, Priyanka also had her share of thrills. She discloses a long-hidden secret about one of her former boyfriends in a chapter that talks about her high-school days in the United States. The actor writes, "One day Bob and I were sitting on the couch watching television, innocently holding hands, when suddenly, outside the window on the sidewalk below, I saw my aunt making her way up the stairs. I panicked. It was 2 in the afternoon and not her usual time to return. There was no way Bob could go outside the house and he and I ran to my room and I shoved him into my closet."

She further adds that when her livid aunt inspected each room and, eventually, asked her to open the closet, "It was a big mess: a boy came out."

WHEN VIJAY TAUGHT PRIYANKA HUMILITY

Priyanka goes on to share that after she won the Miss World title in the year 2000, she made her on-screen debut in a film titled Thamizhan in 2002, in which she starred opposite South Indian superstar Vijay. She shared, "Vijay's humility and his generosity with fans made a lasting impression on me. Years later when she was shooting for her TV show, Quantico, in New York City, she reflected upon the lesson that she had learned. She adds, "As I stood and took pictures with them through my lunch break, I thought about my very first co-actor ever and the example he'd set."

ON FEELING DEMOTIVATED, DEPRESSION AND HOW HER FAMILY CAME TO THE RESCUE

Priyanka states that the remarks that she received from the directors and producers on her body made her question her self-belief and confidence. She shares, "I left the director/producer's office feeling stunned and small. Was he right that I couldn't be successful unless I had so many body parts 'fixed'? I thought of how individuals in the media and others in the industry had referred to me as 'dusky' and 'different-looking', and I wondered if I was cut out for this business after all." But in all this, her family stood by her.

The Desi Girl goes on to mention how she shares a beautiful relationship with each member of her family. She talks about how her family accommodated her sudden change of plans and sacrificed a lot to support her desire of joining the entertainment industry. Priyanka Chopra further confesses how she had to deal with heartbreak and depression for a long time following the death of her father, Ashok Chopra.
