‘Isis’ actress JoAnna Cameron, DC Comics star, dead at 70

JoAnna Cameron, star of DC Comics’ cult classic Saturday morning series “The Secrets of Isis,” has died in Hawaii due to complications from a stroke. She was 70. (Some friends have contacted The Post to report her real age as 73.)

Joanna Pang Atkins, the striking brunette’s co-star on the super-heroine series, which ran from 1975 to 1976 on CBS, announced the former actress’ passing via social media.

“Sad to post that JoAnna Cameron ‘The Mighty Isis’ has flown to heaven,” Atkins posted on Twitter along with a photo with their leading man co-star, Brian Cutler. “She suffered a stroke and passed away from complications [on Oct. 15]. We shared the wonderful lasting experience of making ‘The Secrets of Isis.'”

Cameron starred in the early DC Comics series as mild-mannered archaeologist/educator Andrea Thomas, who discovers the priceless Tutmose amulet. When she dons the artifact — and chants “Oh mighty Isis!” — she transforms into the titular Egyptian goddess and uses her superpowers to save mankind from various evildoers.

Born on Sept. 20, 1951, in Vail, Colorado, Cameron appeared in a then-record-breaking 105 TV commercials, according to Extra TV, before making her big-screen debut in 1969’s feature film comedy “How to Commit Marriage” opposite Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, Tina Louise and Jane Wyman.

She followed her role in that film with a string of TV series guest spots (“Medical Center,” “The Name of the Game,” “Love, American Style”) and a co-starring role in Roger Vadim’s sexploitation cult flick “Pretty Maids All in a Row” with Angie Dickinson in 1971.

In 1970 and 1972, she gained mainstream traction after appearing in a series of episodes of the smash hit medical drama “Marcus Welby, M.D.” with Robert Young and James Brolin.

Her other TV roles include a scene-stealing role as a feminist in the popular TV movie “The Great American Beauty Contest” with Farrah Fawcett in 1973 and a standout 1974 episode of “Columbo” with Peter Falk and guest star Dick Van Dyke.

After her starring turn for 22 episodes in “The Secrets of Isis” — and crossover appearances on the Captain Marvel Saturday series that spawned it, “Shazam!” — Cameron appeared in recurring roles on the TV series “The Amazing Spider-Man” with Nicolas Hammond and “Switch” with Robert Wagner and Eddie Albert.

She retired from acting in 1980 with the aptly titled “Swan Song,” a TV movie starring David Soul of “Starsky & Hutch” and “Salem’s Lot” fame.

Her last screen credits were behind the scenes: Cameron directed the 1982 short documentary “Blue Angels in Razor Sharp” (about the US Navy’s iconic flight demonstration team), and she worked as an assistant camera operator on the 2013 short film “Stew.”

After retiring from the small screen, Cameron reportedly also worked in home health care and in hotel marketing in Hawaii, according to her IMDb bio.
