Harry Ransom Center Announces New Endowment with Robert De Niro

The actor will also attend the center’s 65th anniversary gala in September.

Robert De Niro fans, rejoice! Today, the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas announced that it is creating a new endowment called the De Niro Curator Film. The Oscar-winning actor known for iconic films like Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, and Raging Bull donated his archive documenting his cinematic career to the center in 2006, and he has provided additional contributions of materials through the present.

As the press release notes, “Covering so many aspects of filmmaking—from scripts and production records to costumes, props, film and video—the Robert De Niro Papers are unlike any other film archive. It is a significant collection in the Center’s holdings related to Hollywood filmmaking of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.”

To commemorate its 65th anniversary this year, the Harry Ransom Center will host its “A Celebration of Film” gala this fall at the AT&T Hotel & Conference Center in Austin. De Niro and other celebrities will attend the gala, which will take place on Sept. 24.
