10 Kingdom

Netflix has brought numerous South Korean television series to Western audiences, with shows like Squid Game becoming international hits. However, 2019's horror drama Kingdom, by writer Kim Eun-hee, was the streaming service's first original South Korean series. Unlike most zombie narratives with contemporary settings, Kingdom takes place hundreds of years ago.

In a fictional 16th-century medieval province, a young prince, Lee Chang, must investigate the mysterious disease laying waste to the kingdom. Chang must battle hordes of the undead and keep his political rivals in check in a war for the throne. Kingdom has aired two seasons on Netflix, both of which were well-received by critics.

9 Z Nation

The Walking Dead reinvigorated audiences' interest in the zombie genre. Audiences were hungry for more undead content, and other television networks were eager to deliver. Syfy's Z Nation was a direct response to the fervor, premiering in 2014 when The Walking Dead dominated the airwaves.

Fortitude plays with the science of the zombie apocalypse and weaves a dark mystery. The show's impressive cast features Stanley Tucci, Dennis Quad, and Michael Gambon.

4 Sweet Tooth

Netflix's Sweet Tooth is another original take on the post-apocalypse genre. Based on the comic book of the same name by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is set after an illness called the Sick killed most of the human population.
