Warning: Major Spoilers Below For Halloween EndsNow the Blumhouse trilogy has concluded, the perfect release date for the next Halloween would be to celebrate the franchise's 50th anniversary. Halloween Ends was the 13th installment of the long-running saga and is the rare "final" chapter that delivered on its promise to wrap up the story. By the finale, Michael Myers is dead and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) are ready to move on with their lives. While it closed the door on the Blumhouse era, it won't be the actual end of the franchise.

The series will likely rest for at least a few years before being rebooted again. Michael is, of course, the boogeyman, so evil can never truly die. There doesn't appear to be a plan in place for the next Halloween, though if producers are smart, they'd release the film during Halloween 2028. Not only will this give some distance from the Blumhouse series, but it will mark the 50th anniversary of the original Halloween movie. The next outing can thus not only act as a celebration of the series itself but the dawn of the slasher era itself.

Halloween All Michael Myers Masks

Legacy sequels have a habit of whipping up controversy among their fanbases. Star Wars: The Last Jedi might be the most potent example, but Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends met their share of critiques too. The latter in particular has been very divisive, for pushing Michael's copycat Corey Cunningham to the forefront. The box office tally of the trilogy fell sharply too, but one thing is certain: there WILL be another Halloween in the years ago. The series is simply too iconic - and to producers' eyes, profitable - to stop at Halloween Ends.

Will The Next Halloween Pick Up From Ends?

Corey holding Michael Myers mask in Halloween Ends

Creator and producer John Carpenter gleefully joked about Halloween Ends' title well in advance of its release, knowing from experience it would live on. Of course, the sequel presents the next entry with a clean slate. The most likely route is the next Halloween will reboot the story again, bringing back Michael Myers to stalk n' slash a new cast of characters - possibly throwing in legacy figures like Dr. Loomis. There's a slim chance it will continue from Halloween 2018's timeline, with Ends working hard to close the book.

Michael's body was ground to mincemeat in a shredder, while director David Gordon Green gave Corey an unambiguous demise specifically to prevent him fronting a solo Halloween. Michael's mask wasn't destroyed, so perhaps a fourth Blumhouse entry could see another new killer carry on his legacy. Again, that's not likely as Halloween Ends gave Laurie a happy ending, and Jamie Lee Curtis is ready to move on from the role. Since the series has multiple timelines, it could always explore what happened after The Curse Of Michael Myers or Resurrection - but those continuities were abandoned for good reason.
