Fair City star Adam Karim says his character Alex Petrosian being so unlucky in love is indicative of real life.
The 23-year-old actor has played the role of Alex for eight years now, and over the years he has tried - and failed - to find a romantic connection with a number of Carrigstown residents.
Adam feels Alex’s love life is reflective of what it is like to date these days in a social media society.

He told RSVP Live: “Alex being unlucky in love is what I would say is a radical understatement. I suppose it’s indicative of modern day reality, isn’t it?
“It’s like that in reality, and it’s mad to see. People are on their phones more and they are less social.
“They don’t have the attention span to sit down and talk for 20/30 minutes. We have to go back to old times on that one, I think.”
When asked about his own love life and dating experiences, Adam coyly replied: “No comment.”
Adam has been working on Fair City since he was a teenager and says soap is the best way to hone your acting skills and learn how to be a professional.

“It’s the best school anybody could ask for in terms of performing arts. Pace-wise, interaction-wise and social-wise, it’s brilliant,” he told us.
“It’s more than a training ground, it’s like a marathon every week. If you have a lot of scenes, you could be doing 12-14 hour days.
“You’re flat out, so you’ve got to be really on the ball and well disciplined.”
Alex is a staple in Carrigstown, which means many Fair City fans recognise Adam when he is out and about in public.
He said: “People spot me everywhere. It’s great, they support me and the show and that’s a lovely feeling.
“I wouldn’t have time for anybody who would shun away their fans. I will always say hi to them because it’s like they are an extension of me – I don’t know, them, but they know me and my character.
“If they’re watching Fair City every day, they will often ask me what’s going to happen next, but obviously I can’t tell them. Then we have a laugh over it. It’s all good.”
Adam has been working closely with actress Susie Power, who plays Ellie Daly, in recent scenes and it looks like romance could potentially blossom between them.
Praising his co-star, Adam gushed: “Susie is deadly. She is such a pro and you can really rely on her when filming a scene with her. That’s all you can ask for as an actor.”
Adam has also spent many years working with Nyree Yergainharsian, who plays his on-screen mum Melanie.
As a young actor, he says he has learned so much from working with her.
He said: “I would say I’ve learned much of my professionalism as an actor from her. She is just fantastic and remarkable to work with.
“If I take a scene one way she’ll pick up on it and is really dependable to work alongside. She’s a great co-star and teacher.”
