Book to Film – The Witches
Children’s films moved into darker territories during the 1980s and '90s, and Nicolas Roeg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1983 novel was one of the darkest of them all. Jim Henson’s creative puppetry and Roeg's dark and witty visual style helped create nightmares for its young audience but it’s Anjelica Huston’s bravura performance which remains in the memory. Conflict arose when the filmmakers decided to depart from the novel’s ending and Dahl threatened to have his name removed from the credits. Ultimately two endings were shot. To find out whose vision was respected, join the discussion after the screening. Sunday 13 April at The Backlot Perth - tickets from Eventbrite.

Neil Young: Coastal

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker and Young’s wife, Daryl Hannah, 'Coastal' offers a glimpse behind the curtain of this unguarded iconoclast, as he navigates a return to the stage post-COVID – from his everyday observations on the bus to his candid, wry banter with his audience. The illuminating film also features songs rarely, if ever played live, performed in breathtakingly beautiful theatres. Thursday 17 April at Event Cinemas Innaloo.
