90s' pop star has left the world of music behind - and is now worth millions
Jas Mann was a heartthrob in his heyday, with his long, luscious hair and trendy attire. But in the three decades since he first found fame, he's undergone a dramatic transformation
Iconic Babylon Zoo frontman Jas Mann was a definitive figure of the 90s' pop scene, and charmed a generation with his flowing locks and on-trend outfits.
Fast-forward three decades, and Jasbinder Singh Mann has transformed not only his appearance – opting for a sharp professional look and shorter hairstyle – but also his career path, becoming a multi-millionaire businessman.
In an unexpected twist, the heartthrob presents a tidy image these days, though his nostalgic 90s' spectacles remain a constant as he now spearheads one of Asia's leading media corporations.
He skyrocketed to fame with the chart-topping hit Spaceman, which became the fastest-selling single in 30 years following its release in 1996. The track lingered in the charts for weeks, but Babylon Zoo's journey was fleeting.
Reflecting on the band's debut album at the time, Jas said: "Like an actor, the album is a platform for my personal feelings about my surroundings and the people around me.
"I write about what it would feel like to be a person from another planet, rather than romanticising science fiction".
However, the group's subsequent albums failed to replicate the meteoric success of their first, prompting Jas to leave the music scene shortly afterwards.
Hailing from Dudley with Indian roots, he relocated to South Asia to break into the movie business, leveraging his Spaceman cash to invest in his film and distribution venture Virgin India – established in partnership with Richard Branson's Virgin group.
Continuing his ascent in the business world, trading his 90s' shell suits for formal attire, he progressed to become the CEO of Indomina Group, another film production company.
The firm operates from both LA and the Dominican Republic, contributing to the production of two sequels to the Cabin Fever franchise.
The ex-popstar can now be seen frequenting conferences sporting a geek chic professional look, complete with short, tidy hair.
However, for many, it's the image of Jas Mann in shell suits, with his fabulous flowing hair and sunglasses that remains etched in their minds.
