The European Film Academy Board’s meeting is getting underway in Vilnius on Friday.
According to the film production company M-Films, Lithuania is hosting the board for the first time.
Eighteen board members from 15 European regions are expected in Vilnius, including the academy’s CEO Matthijs Wouter Knol, Managing Director Juergen Biesinger, and members of the European Film Awards selection committee.
The meeting is also expected to bring together major figures from the European film industry, including Irish producer Mike Downey, who chairs the board, Romanian producer Ada Solomon, and Greek producer Giorgos Karnavas.
Among the issues to be discussed by the board is the selection of films for the prestigious European Film Awards and planning for the upcoming awards ceremony.
The visit will also feature a special networking event bringing together the European Film Academy Board, representatives of Lithuania’s film industry, and policymakers.
According to Knol, Vilnius was chosen as the venue because Lithuania has grown significantly in prominence on the European film map in recent years.
He cited the European Film Award-nominated Akiplėša (Toxic) by Saule Bliuvaitė, the abundance of creative talent working in Lithuania, and the country’s attractive filming locations as key factors.
