LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Bullitt County Public Schools won’t be in session Monday as flooding has impacted large portions of the area.

A letter sent home to families and staff stressed community safety as a top priority in the decision to cancel school for Monday and possibly shift to NTI for the rest of the week. Monday was already a Bullit Day, but that has been moved to Tuesday.

According to the letter, currently, North Bullitt High, Roby Elementary, and Lebanon Junction Elementary are being used as shelters. The Salt River is expected to crest at 37.2 feet, which is over five feet above the height needed to reach flood stage, on Monday at 2 p.m.

“Please understand that these plans are subject to change based on evolving flood and road conditions,” the letter said. “While we will continue to make decisions on a day-by-day basis, I encourage you to prepare for the possibility of NTI Days for the remainder of the week (Wednesday through Friday).”

Other schools in the area, like Nelson County Schools, are closing or using an NTI day as well.

JCPS will be on NTI as they say bus stops will be unsafe and inaccessible and numerous roads are closed. All extracurricular activities are canceled.
