BBC Reunion viewers stunned as they work out where they’ve seen Carly actress before
BBC's new drama Reunion has left viewers distracted as they've realised where they've seen Carly actress Lara Peake before - as the star has appeared in a racy drama
Viewers tuning into the BBC's new drama Reunion were left stunned as they recognised the actress portraying Carly.
The series, from the minds behind Netflix's hit Adolescence, premiered on Monday evening (April 7). Set in Sheffield, this four-part drama unfolds from the perspective of a deaf man named Brennan (Matthew Gurney), incorporating British Sign Language, spoken English, and subtitles.
Penned by deaf writer William Mager, the revenge thriller introduces audiences to Brennan, a convicted murderer who is released after a decade behind bars. It quickly becomes apparent that Brennan is seeking vengeance and clarity about the reasons for his incarceration.
In his quest, Brennan also tries to mend ties with distant friends and family, including his daughter Carly. The BBC has billed the story as one of a "deaf man determined to right his wrongs, while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison."
The cast features renowned actress Anne-Marie Duff, celebrated for her roles in Shameless and Bad Girls, as Christine, the spouse of the man Brennan was convicted of killing, reports the Mirror.
Rose Ayling-Ellis, the victor of Strictly 2021 and ex-EastEnders actress, takes on the role of her daughter Miro.
Nonetheless, it was the actress playing Carly who captured the audience's attention in the trailer, leaving many scrambling to place where they had seen her before.
A fan recently headed to Facebook to solve a casting mystery, quickly revealing Lara Peake. Inquisitively, they posted on the social platform: "Who plays his daughter? I recognise her from somewhere."
Echoing the sentiment, another user commented: "I said the same!" Providing the much-needed answer, someone chimed in: "She was in a drama on BBC a few years back called Mood. She played the influencer / escort Carly."
In 2022's BBC drama Mood, Lara Peake stepped into the shoes of hedonistic Carly Visions. The six-episode series, which was both created and penned by Nicole Lecky who also stars as hopeful singer-rapper Sasha, saw its characters entwined in compelling narratives.
However, what starts as an innocuous encounter shifts dramatically as Lara's character Carly leads Sasha down a perilous path into the sex industry.
The series made a big impact, scooping up the BAFTA Award for Best Mini-Series in 2023. It didn't shy away from edgy content either, including orgies and drug misuse.
Moreover, Love Island's Anna Vakili appeared as well, portraying an influencer at a glitzy event that both Sasha and Carly attend.
Apart from Mood, actress Lara Peake featured in the BAFTA-nominated film How To Have Sex, released in 2023. Additionally, she portrayed Daysee Butler in the provocative Disney+ series Rivals, which debuted last year.
