Netflix has given new hope to Gerard Butler's disaster movie Geostorm as it climbs the chart, despite having a low Rotten Tomatoes score.
The 2017 sci-fi thriller tells the story of a team of scientists who race against the clock to save Earth from a dangerous geostorm that it capable of wiping out the entire planet.
Hollywood star Gerard, who is known for his roles in The Phantom of the Opera and Dracula, plays satellite designer Jake Lawson, who is tasked with examining malfunctioning satellites on the International Climate Space Station (ICSS).

Dean Devlin directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Paul Guyot, marking the filmmaker's feature directorial debut.
Alongside Gerard, the cast also included Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia.
Despite its star-studded cast and intriguing plot, Geostorm heavily underperformed at the box office, grossing only $221.6 million worldwide against a $120 million budget, losing Warner Bros a staggering $71.6 million.
The film was also criticised by critics, earning a dismal 18% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviewers had issues with the storytelling, underdeveloped characters and "disappointing" visual effects.
The Hollywood Reporter said: "The planetary disaster film equivalent of a two-hour call to tech support, Dean Devlin's Geostorm boils down to that classically annoying hail-mary bit of advice: Have you tried shutting it down and rebooting?"
However, Geostorm recently made its streaming debut on Netflix and has found huge success on the platform.
After landing on the streamer on April 1, the film debuted at number 4 on the US daily Top 10 chart of the most-watched movies. It then rose to number 2 the following day and remained in that position for four consecutive days.
Following the film's resurgence, many viewers have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share their verdict.
"Damn I love natural disaster movies so much lol currently watching #Geostorm," one person wrote, with another adding: "Who hasn't watched #Geostorm? If you haven't, you might want to."
A third viewer said: "One of those movies where most of the actors do a pretty good job with a really bad script."
