To mark four years of Karnan, director Mari Selvaraj made a special announcement on social media, announcing that he is once again set to collaborate with Thiruchitrambalam actor Dhanush, who was last seen in Raayan. Tentatively titled D56, the film is backed by Ishari Ganesh under Vels Films International
In 2021, Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj joined hands for the first time for social action drama Karnan. The critically acclaimed blockbuster film has completed 4 years since release. The film is available for streaming on Prime Video.
To celebrate it, the makers announced a new project. Yes, Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj will be once again collaborating for a film tentatively called D56. It will be backed by Ishari Ganesh.
While not much has been announced about the project, the first poster shows a sword, (reminding one of Karnan) as the handle is shaped in form of a human skull. “Roots begin a Great War” reads the poster. Announcing the project, Mari Selvaraj wrote, “Overwhelmed to celebrate the 4th year of a journey forged by Karnan's Sword! Thanks to everyone who celebrated and supported Karnan throughout the years!! Also, I am exhilarated to say that my next project is once again with my dearest @dhanushkraja sir! This has been soaking in my mind for quite sometime now and I am very excited to be joining hands with him once again! This is my first with @ishariKganesh sir and I can't be any happier! This is going to be a thrilling experience indeed!”
Dhanush, who has shown his acting prowess, has donned various roles in his career so far. From playing a simpleton in Thiruchitrambalam to an action hero in Raayan which he directed, the actor has aced all his roles. His romantic drama Yaaradi Nee Mohini , blockbuster commercial film Velaiilla Pattathari , and his portrayal as social outcast in Kaadhal Kondein have won Dhanush acclaim.
