Theme park enthusiasts are excited with the news of a Universal Studios resort set to open in the UK, although some were "surprised" to find that a beloved film franchise seems to be missing from the plans.

On Wednesday (April 9), it was confirmed the the multi-billion pound resort would be brought to fruition, with an expected opening date in 2031. The theme park is touted to be Europe's most advanced and is projected to inject about £50billion into the economy while creating 28,000 jobs during its construction and operation.

Universal, which already operates two large parks in the US and several others globally, has promised thrilling rollercoasters and immersive attractions. The 476-acre entertainment complex will also feature a 500-room hotel at its Bedfordshire location.

Eager fans have been speculating on what rides and attractions they hope to see after a computer-generated image of the park was shared online, showcasing rides, themed 'worlds', and a water show. However, some potential thrill-seekers are concerned that one of their favourite Universal movie series may not have its own dedicated area.

The company has stated that it is "still too early" to provide specifics about what will be included in the park, but existing Universal theme parks boast rides dedicated to franchises such as Minions, Kung Fu Panda, ET, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Popeye, Fast and Furious, Men In Black, and Wicked, among others.

Excitement is building among theme park enthusiasts as concept images of the UK's upcoming attraction lead to speculation about potential themes. Fans are predicting that the park could feature a Minion land and a section dedicated to Back to the Future.

Following the release of a video by popular theme park account @coastertog, which promises a closer glimpse at the concept art, comments poured in from hopeful fans. One eager fan said: "I'm hoping for Wicked themed. The green ride could be very Elphaba."

Another chimed in with support for the idea, adding: "Imagine a Wicked/Wizard of Oz themed land! It would be great if they had a unique land rather than copy/paste of existing attractions."

Others shared their own hopes, with one stating: "I just want Simpsons land," while another claimed: "If we don't have Simpsons or Harry Potter theme, I will cry," Opinions varied, with someone else expressing their wish list bluntly: "I need it to be Jurassic World and Jaws."

Some even speculated about the possibility of a Lord of the Rings inspired section. However, the lack of confirmation about a Harry Potter-themed area has left some fans worried, especially given the park's UK location. On TikTok, a concerned fan posted: "So no Harry Potter world, when it's based in England...if that's true that is such a missed opportunity."

Meanwhile, @DawsOnScreen discussed the new park with visible excitement: "Universal FB is real, it's happening and coming sooner than you might have thought." His video offered an intimate look at the plans, with fans scouring for evidence of a Harry Potter section.

In the comment section under his post, the sentiment about the necessity of including Harry Potter was echoed, with one person remarking: "If they don't have a Harry Potter land they're fools. It's literally meant to be in England.

"Where the hell is Harry Potter," one fan exclaimed, with another stating, "If they don't have Harry Potter, I'll scream. It was written and filmed in the UK. You best believe we deserve it."

However, not everyone is keen on having a Harry Potter theme. One person shared, "I hope it's not Harry Potter themed and instead brings new unique lands. Bit disappointed in copying Minions and Jurassic World if that's true. Imagine Lord of the Rings!".

A different view was offered by someone who reminded, "People complaining about no Harry Potter when we have the entire Harry Potter Studio probably less than an hour away from this site."

Indeed, fans can immerse themselves in the world of witchcraft and wizardry at the nearby Harry Potter Studio Tour London, which delves into "the making of Harry Potter," showcasing actual sets, props and costumes.

With Universal Studios completing Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida, the company's attention has turned to the UK project. The Orlando site will open its gates on May 22, featuring attractions such as Super Nintendo World, Celestial Park, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic.
