Johnny Depp looks completely unrecognizable on set of new movie as fans love 'silver fox' look

Johnny Depp is filming his upcoming thriller, Day Drinker, in Spain alongside Penélope Cruz - and a first look at the movie has showed the actor looking weathered in a suit

Hollywood star Johnny Depp looks completely unrecognizable on the set of a new movie he is shooting alongside Penélope Cruz.


The 61-year-old actor, who is currently filming in Spain, was photographed with gray hair, a gray beard and blue colored contacts while wearing a suit and holding a glass in the first look of his upcoming thriller, Day Drinker. The film, directed by Marc Webb, stars Outer Banks actress Madelyn Cline as a bartender on a private yacht who befriends an onboard guest, Kelly, played by Johnny.

The pair soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure, played by Penélope, and discover some unexpected connections. Day Drinker is Johnny's and Penélope's fourth feature together after they starred in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express.

It is also Johnny's first major role in an American production following his defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in 2022, during which a jury sided with him and found that the actress had defamed him in a Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence that didn't name him. Following a series of appeals, the case ended in late 2022, with both parties settling their respective appeals.

Day Drinker director Marc, who also worked on the Snow White live-action remake starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, said, "I'm excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast. We're in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell. This is going to be fun."


The film is produced by Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who produce the John Wick franchise for Lionsgate, Adam Kolbrenner, producer of The Tomorrow War, Free Guy and Prisoners, and Zach Dean, who also wrote the original screenplay. Day Drinker is executive produced by 30West.

In September, Johnny and Penélope attended the San Sebastian Film Festival together, where the actor premiered the film Modi, The Three Days on the Wing of Madness as a director. In a press conference, Johnny seemed to allude to his defamation trial, divulging how he personally connected to his movie's subject, Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

"Each has their story. Sure, we can say that I've been through a number of things here and there," Johnny explained during the conference. "I think we've all been through a number of things, ultimately. Maybe yours wasn't, didn’t turn into a soap opera, televised, in fact."

Though Day Drinker is set to be Johnny's big comeback, he did star in the French Movie Jeanne Du Barry, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023. It premiered in the US in May 2024. Another project that Johnny is working on in addition to Day Drinker is the animated movie Johnny Puff: Secret Mission. Amber now lives a quite life in Madrid, Spain, along with her daughter Oonagh Paige following her legal battle with Johnny.
