SUPPORTING WOMEN AND DIVERSITY IN BOYLE

 The second of three seminars ‘Supporting women and persons of diversity through greater engagement with Local Government’ took place last week in King House, Boyle. The campaign which also visited a number of second-level schools in the county is organised by Roscommon County Council in conjunction with See Her Elected, which lobbies and advocates on behalf of women for greater political engagement. The initiative is also supported by the Roscommon Women’s Network and a range of other stakeholders.

CEMETERY COLLECTION 

Friends of Assylinn (Assylinn Cemetery) are having a church gate collection at St. Joseph’s Church, Boyle, on April 19th and 20th. Please support.

RELICS OF ST. THERESE 

First class Relics of St. Therese and her parents St. Louis & Zelie will be in St. Patrick's Church, Castlerea on Wednesday April 9th for Mass at 7 p.m. and veneration afterwards.

COMMUNITY CHOIR 

The Community Choir meets every Thursday at 7 p.m.. Come along to the Boyle Family Resource Centre and let the music lift your mood. A huge thank you to Roscommon County Council Creative Ireland Programme for supporting the Boyle One Voice Singers Group.

RESEARCH DEGREE 

A research degree programme has been co-developed between Limerick School of Art & Design and Roscommon County Council Arts Office / Creative Ireland Programme and linked partners at King House, Boyle. The programme offers an embedded cultural and curatorial experience designed to support learning and research in cultural management and curatorial studies with a focus on the Boyle Civic Art Collection. Application closing date is Monday, April 28th at 4 p.m. Interviews in person. Information on the Scholarship is available on the TUS website: https://tus.ie/rdi/research/office/funded-research/ 

GOLF NEWS 

Congratulations to Charlie Beirne who is 21 years with the club this year. Anyone who has had any dealings with Charlie in that time will know him as a very good natured person who is always keen to oblige. Dealing with our worsened winter weather and also more stringent environmental regulations mean his job is sometimes a tricky one so thank you very much Charlie for your loyalty and hard work. The club will see a notable increase in activity over the next few weeks. The men’s Thursday night competitions will restart. The ladies improvers (last year’s beginners) will resume in their Wednesday night slot. The first ever men’s beginners will also be starting soon, most likely on a Monday night and after Easter the juniors will recommence their Saturday morning sessions.

GAA LOTTO 

 The numbers drawn the GAA online lotto draw this week were 2,21,22,28. There was no Jackpot winner and the Match 3 winner was John Keenehan. The lotto Jackpot next week is €4,800.

LATE MR GEOFFREY JAMES HENRY

The death occurred last week of Mr Geoffrey James Henry, Leam, Boyle, and formerly of Rathedmond Estate, Sligo, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Geoffrey will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Adrianne; daughter, Allanah; sons, Tiernan and Oran; his parents, Jim and Josephine; sisters, Michelle, Audrey and Patrice; Adrianne’s parents, Peter and Breda McArdle; brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Following Requiem Mass on in St. Joseph’s Church Boyle burial took place in Assylinn Cemetery.

RETIRED NURSES ASSOCIATION AGM 

The AGM of the Roscommon branch of the Retired Nurses Association will be held in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon, on Monday, April 14th at 11 a.m.. All members welcome.

COOTEHALL CHURCH 

It’s great to see the painting of the church in Cootehall finally complete and looking so well. Normal masses have now resumed. It’s been an expensive project and donations towards the cost of the painting are still very welcome.

COOTEHALL NATIONAL SCHOOL

 Cootehall NS has been chosen to participate in the current Tesco Community Fund in its Carrick-on-Shannon Supermarket. The school asks for your support in collecting blue tokens if you are shopping in Tesco and placing them in the collection box labelled St. Michael’s and St. Patrick’s N.S. All proceeds from the blue tokens will be used to support additional activities and other initiatives in the school.

DRUMBOYLAN NS CELEBRATIONS 

Drumboylan National School celebrates 75 years on Sunday, May 4th. To coincide with this event a book filled with memories and photographs is being created. Past pupils, young and old are asked to get in touch and to share some of the fondest memories. E-mail them to drumboylanns@gmail.com.

Keadue Tidy Towns will hold the first clean-up of spring on Thursday, April 3rd, meeting at Heritage Park at 6.30 p.m.. All are volunteers working for the community, all welcome.
