We are watching a couple of relatively weak systems – one to our north and another to our south – that will bring clouds and a few scattered showers tonight and Thursday. Otherwise, our overall weather pattern is going to be quiet and mild through the weekend and much of next week.

Those clouds are coming from two systems that will move through our area over the next couple of days. The first is a low pressure system that will move from the southern US into the Ohio Valley, the second is a weak cold front that will move across the region tonight and Thursday. In addition to clouds, there will be a few scattered showers and perhaps an isolated thundershower or two. The best chance of rain will be across southeastern Minnesota where 0.10 to 0.20 of an inch will be possible. Most of southern and central Minnesota and northern Iowa will only get a few sprinkles to perhaps a few hundredths of an inch. A few spots may get up to a tenth of an inch, but overall, rain amounts won’t be significant. The Severe Weather Risk is slim to none.

Clouds and scattered showers will stick around through much of Thursday, with some gradual clearing by later Thursday afternoon. Highs on Thursday will only reach the low 60s.

Friday will be mostly sunny with temperatures remaining in the low 60s, which is slightly below average for this time of year. Our average high right now is around 64 degrees.

The weekend is going to be absolutely spectacular and perfect for anything you might have planned outdoors. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 70s and just a light breeze. Sunday will be sunny and warmer with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. It will become slightly breezier on Sunday afternoon, especially across far western and southwestern Minnesota.

If you’re a fan of the weekend forecast, I have more good news. This dry, warmer than average weather pattern is expected to continue through most of next week. While there may be a couple of weak systems that bring a shower or two during the week, there are no major signs of significant rain or storms anytime in the foreseeable future. Of course, that can always change. Stay tuned for updates.
