A number of by-elections have taken place in Oxfordshire and the results are in.

When a seat on a council becomes vacant, a local by-election will be called.

Voting took place yesterday (May 1) and results were revealed today following an overnight count.

Oxford City Council

A by-election was held in the Headington Hill and Northway ward for Oxford City Council with the results being announced in the early hours of Friday morning. 

James William John Taylor of Labour has been elected after receiving 461 votes as his party gained a seat from the Independents.

Nasreen Majeed of the Independent Oxford Alliance received the second highest number of votes with 445. 

Then Stephen Robert Hurt of the Green Party came in third with 158 votes. 

Eric Sean Joni Sukumaran of the Local Conservatives received 98 votes, Hana Packford of the Liberal Democrats had a total of 62 votes and Agnieszka Kowalska of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition received 30 votes. 

The voter turnout was 31.3 per cent with five rejected ballot papers for the count. 

Cherwell District Council

In Cherwell, there were good results for both the Conservatives and Labour. 

For the Banbury Cross and Neithrop ward of Cherwell District Council, the Conservatives gained a seat from Labour with 729 votes.

Fiaz Ahmed was the winner here ahead of Andrew Eaton from Labour who received 690 votes.

Simon Garrett of the Independents came in second with 412 votes and Rebecca Bell of the Liberal Democrats received 358 votes. 

The turnout was 29.35 per cent here.

For Banbury Grimsbury and Hightown, Labour retained its seat.

The by-election was triggered by Sean Woodcock, the now MP for Banbury, stepping down.

Henry Elugwu of Labour received 639 votes, ahead of the Conservatives' Paul Austin who received 600.

Cassi Bellingham of the Independents received 289, with Lib Dems' Sophie Parker Manuel receiving 216, and Karl Kwiatkowski's of the Greens receiving 207 votes.

The turnout here was 27.64 per cent.

For the Deddington ward, Conservatives held its seat, with Zoe McLernon receiving 1,560 votes.

She was ahead of the Lib Dems' Nick Mylne, who received 916 votes.

Labour's Helen Oldfield received 478 votes and Aaron Bliss of the Green party received 370.

The turnout here was 44.34 per cent.

West Oxfordshire District Council

For West Oxfordshire District Council, the Lib Dems retained its seat in the Standlake Ason and Stanton Harcourt by-election with 725 going to Sandra Cosier.

This by-election was triggered by Charlie Maynard, now MP for Witney, stepping down.

South Oxfordshire District Council

For South Oxfordshire District Council, the Lib Dems retained its seat in Watlington, with Benjamin James Higgins receiving 679 votes.

This by-election was triggered after Freddie van Mierlo, now MP for Henley and Thame, stepped down.

The Lib Dems were ahead of Anthony Richard Riley of the Conservative party, who received 585 votes. 

Lucie Giselle Ponsford of the Green party received 174 votes, and Nicholas Douglas Palmer of Labour received 34. 

In Wheatley, the Lib Dems also retained its seat, with Peter Douglas Ramsdale receiving 573 votes.

He was ahead of Conservatives' Daniel William Masters, who received 428 votes.

Amanda Jane Rowe-Jones of the Green party received 148 votes, and Craig William Wilson of the Labour party received 79. 

A Wantage Neighbourhood Planning Referendum for the Vale of White Horse District Council, in which 2780 votes were cast in favour.

A total of 437 people voted no, and the turnout was 30.6 per cent.
