Richard Gere is one of those celebrities who has fallen in love with Spain and has ended up developing his life in the country. The American actor has been living in Spain for years enjoying his professional retirement. In addition, the actor has shown himself to be integrated in terms of political and social opinion of the country, characterized by his assessments regarding such management.
Last Sunday, May 4, La Sexta conducted an exclusive interview with Richard Gere, who talked about many topics, but among them all, the global politics, immigration, the figure of Pope Francis and his adaptation to Spain.
Related to immigration, Gere also had the opportunity to speak out about the management of his country of origin, the United States. Donald Trump's administration's handling of immigration was a key issue for the actor in the interview on 'El Objetivo'.
"If people are suffering, you help them. You and I know that there are migrants and refugees who are trying to escape terrible situations in Central America and who are trying to get to the United States, a place of possibilities," Gere began, before introducing the figure of the Republican magnate into the equation.
"Trump has demonized all these people. Murderers, drug addicts... they are all gang members and horrible people, violent, crazy. That's not true, we all know that," the actor said.
Richard Gere: "The United States is the country of immigrants"
"I think of these people who leave Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and take a child and take him 1,000 or 2,000 miles to get to the US border," Gere says of the difficulty behind such migration.
"The US is the country of immigrants, we are all immigrants there. Everyone, whether in this generation or the previous one. Everyone wants to go to the United States thinking that all possibilities are available," he concluded.
