Related to immigration, Gere also had the opportunity to speak out about the management of his country of origin, the United States. Donald Trump's administration's handling of immigration was a key issue for the actor in the interview on 'El Objetivo'.

"If people are suffering, you help them. You and I know that there are migrants and refugees who are trying to escape terrible situations in Central America and who are trying to get to the United States, a place of possibilities," Gere began, before introducing the figure of the Republican magnate into the equation.

"Trump has demonized all these people. Murderers, drug addicts... they are all gang members and horrible people, violent, crazy. That's not true, we all know that," the actor said.

Richard Gere: "The United States is the country of immigrants"

"I think of these people who leave Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and take a child and take him 1,000 or 2,000 miles to get to the US border," Gere says of the difficulty behind such migration.

"The US is the country of immigrants, we are all immigrants there. Everyone, whether in this generation or the previous one. Everyone wants to go to the United States thinking that all possibilities are available," he concluded.
