NEW BRITAIN — Glen LaVertu, an art professor at CCSU in New Britain and graduate with a Master’s of fine arts in sculptor from the Rhode Island School of Design, was featured in the film “Secret Mall Apartment,” which was showcased at Real Art Ways in Hartford this past Saturday night.
“Secret Mall Apartment” is a documentary that is based on eight people living at the mall in Providence, Rhode Island in 2003.
The auditorium for the showing was packed.
The film was very entertaining and was also filled with humor. The eight people occupying that empty space at the mall moved in furniture and used it mainly to display their artwork. These people lived in the apartment for four years.
LaVertu appeared in scenes dealing with art and he was funny at times and came across well in the film.
The documentary has garnered many awards and it is a labor of many years in the making. The audience gave an enthusiastic round of applause after its conclusion. There was a Q and A after the screening.
The film will be appearing at other venues as its director, Jeremy Workman, continues to move forward with his wonderful work of art.
