Trent Alexander-Arnold's announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season has dominated the headlines.

The England star made his decision public on Monday morning, meaning he has just three more games to play in a red shirt before he leaves on a free transfer. Real Madrid's interest in Alexander-Arnold has been an open secret all season.

But the official announcement and his reasons for leaving have seen fans react furiously that a lifelong supporter of the club has chosen to leave after two decades. The 26-year-old stressed how hard it was for him to make this decision but it hasn't eased the hurt on supporters.

With his departure now confirmed, the speculation can finally end. And with the title in the bag, Arne Slot can start planning for the 2025/26 season, which will feature Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but not Alexander-Arnold. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Trent's Real offer

Liverpool did their best to keep Alexander-Arnold, with new sporting director Richard Hughes making it a priority upon taking up his role. While he managed to retain Salah and Van Dijk, he couldn't convince Alexander-Arnold to stay.

The Reds offered the England ace a bumper contract that would have made him one of the world's best-paid defenders, but Alexander-Arnold's decision didn't come down to money.

Alexander-Arnold is set to sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid and reunite with pal Jude Bellingham in sunny Spain. Speaking about the move, he said: "It just boiled down to what I felt I needed, and that is a change. That's something I need to do on my personal journey as a person, but also as a player and a professional, to go and challenge myself elsewhere. I feel like a challenge in a different environment is something I need to do as a player."

Frimpong boost

Liverpool will be in the market for a right-back this summer as they look to replace Alexander-Arnold, and Jeremie Frimpong is one of the key targets.

The Bayer Leverkusen sensation has four goals and 12 assists in 47 games this season and is one of the most sought-after full-backs in world football. But Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit as Frimpong revealed he "chose" to join Liverpool before he joined Man City as a youngster.

"One time with AFC Clayton, we had a final. I scored a hat-trick and won player of the tournament," he revealed to Rising Ballers. "There were scouts from Liverpool, Man City, Bolton and lots more. I chose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn't a thing. My family wasn't driving and it was far. Man City was local so I tried Man City next. It made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus."

Roy Keane's transfer verdict

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has laid out what he thinks Liverpool must do in the transfer market come summer. After witnessing Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, where Slot opted to rotate his squad, Keane pointed out the Reds' need for reinforcements.

Kostas Tsimikas, Jarell Quansah, and Harvey Elliott were among those given a run-out, prompting Keane to suggest on Sky Sports that Liverpool should be eyeing at least three new signings to maintain their title-winning momentum.

"They want to back that up," Keane insisted on Sky Sports regarding Liverpool's summer strategy. "That's the big challenge for Liverpool. Possibly a left-back, a centre half, [and] potentially I would say striker. They've won the league, they'll be a big attraction for a lot of players. Winning the league's fantastic, you've got to back it up again next year."
