If you’re a diehard Sex and The City fan, you know about the bare stomach belt. In season four, episode 15 of the hit HBO series, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) steps out in one of her most iconic looks of the series: a cropped dress shirt and flowy midi skirt, punctuated with a wide checkered belt worn around her bare stomach. Her statement accessory has become legendary, mainly due to its totally useless nature: its there purely as decoration, rather than for any sort of utility or practicality. And now, Miley Cyrus is getting on board with the approach, too.

Last night in New York City, Cyrus stepped out after a Spotify event (where she gave fans an intimate listen of her upcoming album, Something Beautiful) wearing her take on a stomach belt. Her look—by Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford—was styled by Bradley Kenneth, and included a cropped black tuxedo jacket, dress shirt, and trousers. She accessorized with a skinny little croc belt worn around her waist. The star wore the look exactly as it was shown in the fall 2025 collection—itty-bitty useless belt and all! (We love saucy leather gloves and huge shield shades, too.)

But back to that belt. While some may find the concept of wearing a belt around your bare skin, well, absurd, there is something sexy and sleek about the addition of it when styled right. On Carrie, that big honking belt was very much in-your-face, but Cyrus’s barely-there micro belt fit blended right in with her ensemble. Maybe Ackermann is onto something with this suiting approach. Does fashion have to be practical all the time? Sometimes, a little impracticality is a fun way to level-up your wardrobe.
