Jennifer Lawrence Got Real About Motherhood In Her First Comments Since Giving Birth To Her Second Child

    Here's what she said.

Last month, it was revealed that Jennifer Lawrence gave birth to her second baby in New York City. You'll recall that she welcomed her first with husband Cooke Maroney, Cy, back in 2022.

Even though Jennifer is known to yap (and I mean that as the highest of compliments), she's pretty private about her personal life. So until now, the only word we'd really heard about her post-second pregnancy was a report from People as to how she was doing.

“Her first child was born in Los Angeles. She recently gave birth to her second child in N.Y.C. She’s doing well," a source told the publication at the time. "She was very excited about the pregnancy. She thought it was the perfect timing. She was very active and felt good."

So, Jennifer was just at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of her new movie Die, My Love from acclaimed director (and, it must be said, one of my personal faves) Lynne Ramsay. During the press conference for the film (via Variety), Jennifer made her first comments about dealing with motherhood — a theme that's central to the film — since giving birth again.

“As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do as opposed to what she would do," she said about her character in the film, which she made while she was five months pregnant. "And it was just heartbreaking."

"I had just had my firstborn, and there’s not really anything like postpartum. It’s extremely isolating, which is so interesting. When Lynne moves this couple into Montana, she doesn’t have a community. She doesn’t have her people. But the truth is, extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolating, no matter where you are. You feel like an alien.”

“Having children changes everything," she added. "It changes your whole life. It’s brutal and incredible. So not only do they go into every decision of if I’m working, where I’m working, when I’m working, they’ve taught me — I mean, I didn’t know that I could feel so much and my job has a lot to do with emotion. It’s almost like feeling a blister or something — like, so sensitive."

"So they’ve changed my life, obviously, for the best and they’ve changed me creatively. I highly recommend having kids if you want to be an actor.”

Jennifer, let me be the first to say that if I ever become an actor, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
