Iola Middle School capped an eventful school year Thursday with several honors for work in and out of the classroom.

Eighth-graders Kashyn Curry and Logan Thompson-Belknap were named recipients of the American Legion Award. 

The award, selected by IMS staff members, goes to students who exhibit courage, leadership, honor and service, while still excelling in academics. Both Curry and Thompson-Belknap are straight-A students involved in myriad activities.

The KSHSAA Citizenship Award went to Henry Kramer and Camryn Wille for their behavior within the IMS halls.

Other awards:

Presidential Achievement for students who show educational growth in their academic pursuits went to Autumn Carr, Lily Foxworthy, Will Garner, Ethan Hunt, Jayan Ivy, Henry Kramer and Reya Skaggs.

Presidential Excellence Awards go to those in grades 5 or 8 who score in the 90th percentile in state assessment tests and maintain a 3.5 grade-point average or above. Those went to Kyndal Bartlett, Lucas Boeken, Charles Brown Jr., Mary Burris, Kashyn Curry, Haidyn Desmarteau, Adelynn Droessler, Blayke Folk, Kinzley Fountain, Maddux Franklin, Eliana Higginbotham, Liliana Jerome, Piper Jordan, Braylon Keithly, Tayven Kress, Robert McLaughlin, Kayleigh Merrill, Aaliyah Rhodes, Kailyn Rodriguez, Breighlynn Rutherford, Macie Stokes-Huntsinger, Hannah Thompson, Logan Thompson-Belknap, Harley Tidd and Camryn Wille. 

Eighth-grader Jacob Catron received an IMS Spirit Award.

Those named to the Principal’s Honor Roll for maintaining a 4.0 GPA for the full year:
