Stitch says he’s not in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. I don’t believe him

Stitch in the live-action 'Lilo & Stitch' movie

Stitch has been doing a lot of press recently in the lead up to the release of the live-action Lilo & Stitch. So it isn’t surprising that Stitch is being asked a spoilery question about Avengers: Doomsday.

His name was not present on chair day. If you recall, Marvel announced their line-up of actors taking on Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) in Doomsday by slowly revealing their names on the back of chairs for hours on end. None of them said “Stitch” which feels like a missed opportunity. Stitch is super strong and indestructible. He could do some damage.

So IGN’s Jeffrey Vega asked Stitch whether or not he was going to make a surprise appearance in the upcoming Avengers film. “You’re trying to get Stitch in trouble … Stitch strong … Doomsday not be ready for Stitch!”

Now, that seems like a diplomatic answer. One that wouldn’t get Stitch in trouble and wouldn’t spoil the news that he’s part of the Avengers. So I don’t necessarily believe him. Look, I know this is a joke but it is hilarious to watch Stitch do the “Marvel” actor thing and have to deny rumors about him being in a movie. I’d watch it all day long.

Having millennials interview Stitch is truly iconic

There are some movies that are just incredibly millennial. Lilo & Stitch is one of them. You’d be hard-pressed to find a millennial who doesn’t love Stitch in some way or another. We all remember when we first met him and first sobbed over him talking about his small and broken family that is still good. So to watch us interview Stitch for the new movie is hilarious.

Why? Because we have some questions! I’d like to know how Angel is doing and what it was like filming the animated series with all his siblings but there are also more pressing issues to ask. Like if Stitch and Aladdin are cool with each other now.

IGN also asked Stitch about that time he stole Jasmine from Aladdin back in 2002 in the DVD video for Lilo & Stitch that also included Stitch crashing the iconic dance from Beauty and the Beast. According to Stitch, it was all a publicity stunt and he does not want to be a “homewrecker.”

I just think this is an incredibly fun way to do press. For many of us millennials, we grew up loving Stitch. I was only 10 when that movie came out and it gave me a lifelong need to buy every single Stitch thing I found. So yes, I have some questions I’d like to ask Stitch myself.

But I think this is just a smart marketing tactic. Having press ask Stitch questions? Perfection. Having Stitch ride around in a little pink Barbie jeep? Also hilarious. It’s just really cute and I love watching every single interview that Stitch did. I don’t think that I believe Stitch when he says he’s not in Doomsday but we’ll just have to wait and see.
