Diorella “Lala” Sotto-Antonio, the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), tendered her courtesy resignation on Friday, May 23.
This was after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for the members of his cabinet to turn in their courtesy resignations, in an effort to “realign government with the people’s expectations.”
Sotto-Antonio, who was appointed as MTRCB chair by Marcos in 2022, conveyed her appreciation for the chance to serve the administration.
“It has been a profound honor to serve in your administration and to lead the MTRCB in fulfilling its mandate of guiding and safeguarding the content consumed by the Filipino public,” she said.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to contribute to nation-building through this agency and for the trust you have placed in me during my tenure,” she added.
During her stint as chairperson, Sotto-Antonio led campaigns including the “Responsableng Panonood” program, and the initiative to modernize the agency’s classification systems.
She also represented the Philippines in international forums such as the Annual Conference of the International Institute of Communication (IIC) in Bangkok, Thailand, Latin America and the Caribbean; the Annual Asia Digital Communications, Media Forum in Seoul, South Korea; and the Miami, Florida Media Summit.
Marcos’ decision to revamp his cabinet came after the national and local elections last May 12.
“The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act,” he explained. /ra
